Club Safety Boat - Rowing

A practical on-water training course for Rowing club coaches and safety boat operators. 

Recommended by Rowing New Zealand

Elements Watersports professionally qualified Powerboat instructors are affiliated to deliver the Club Safety Boat Courses for Rowing Clubs and we deliver this course right there at Your rowing club venue.

Coastguard Boating Education in conjunction with Rowing New Zealand have developed a special course for operators of rowing club rescue and support craft and this course is relevant and very thorough in assisting your clubs coaches, staff and volunteers to become proficient safety boat drivers.

Your training is provided by Elements Watersports experienced powerboat instructors.  Courses are ideally run at your rowing club for its members as vessels, hazards, procedures and equipment are club-specific and this is all incorporated in our training day with you.

Elements Watersports is also able to offer your club the Marine VHF radio operator’s course to coincide with your club safety boat course, or we can offer you the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course which is recommended for craft powered by 25hp and above.

Club Safety Boat Course - Rowing         1 day    

Catering for the complete beginner or experienced boat drivers alike, the aim of this course is to gain safety knowledge and proficiency in coach/safety boat operation, enabling better safety cover for rowers involved in rowing club activities and events.  No pre-requisites are required to take the course and once completed you will receive a certificate endorsed by Rowing NZ.

Marine VHF course  

All operators of maritime VHF radios must hold, as a minimum requirement, a Maritime VHF Radio Operator Certificate.

Knowing how to use a maritime VHF radio correctly and with confidence is vital in the event of an emergency.  

The Maritime VHF Radio Operator Certificate course covers the general features and functions of a maritime VHF radio, correct distress and urgency procedures for ‘Mayday’ and ‘Pan Pan’ calls, pro-words and phonetic alphabet, trip reports, weather services, callsigns, EPIRBS and other search and rescue equipment.
