Club Safety Boat Course - Yachting 1 day
Catering for the complete beginner or experienced boat drivers alike, the aim of this course is to increase the safety and proficiency of safety boat operators at your club, enabling you to provide better safety cover for sailors involved with sailing club activities. No pre-requisites are required to take the course and once completed you will receive a certificate endorsed by Yachting NZ.
Coastguard Boating Education in conjunction with Yachting New Zealand has developed a special course for operators of club rescue and support craft and this course is relevant and very thorough in assisting your sailing club staff and volunteers to become proficient safety boat drivers.
Courses are ideally run at your Yacht/Sailing club for its members, as vessels, hazards, procedures and equipment are club-specific and this is incorporated in our training day with you.
The course outline is as follows:
*Boat checks and safety equipment * NZ Law – Giveway rules and Part 91
*Launching and Retrieving *Boat Handling Techniques *Laying Marks *Communication
*Righting inverted craft *Casualty rescue *Towing
Club procedures – start and end of day, recording & reporting, engine flush and maintenance checks
It is recommended that all Club Safety Boat operators Also obtain a marine VHF qualification.
Elements Watersports is able to offer your club members the Marine VHF radio operator’s course to coincide with your club safety boat course. Talk to us about how we can help you achieve this.
We also offer the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course which is recommended for craft powered by 25hp and above.
Marine VHF Radio Course
All operators of maritime VHF radios must hold, as a minimum requirement, a Maritime VHF Radio Operator Certificate.
Knowing how to use a maritime VHF radio correctly and with confidence is vital in the event of an emergency.
Maritime VHF radios can be used for listening to weather forecasts, communicating between boats, or communicating boat to shore.
The Maritime VHF Radio Operator Certificate course covers the general features and functions of a maritime VHF radio, correct distress and urgency procedures for ‘Mayday’ and ‘Pan Pan’ calls, pro-words and phonetic alphabet, trip reports, weather services, callsigns, EPIRBS and other search and rescue equipment.
